How ThinHost Works

Thin Client Technology

“Thin Client” technology has been around since the early 1990s. It allows large corporations to run all their software applications from a centrally managed server farm. The methodology resolves many logistical issues for large companies around the support and management of PC workstations. Rather than having to install and upgrade all the software on every computer in the company, software is access entirely from the central servers. Thin Client technology is also referred to as “Server Centric” computing.

Hosting

Since 2003 ADSL or Broadband has provided the reliability and speed needed to allow all businesses the opportunity to take advantage of thin client technology. By hosting a server centric IT infrastructure in the same way as you would a web site the ‘ThinHost’ model brings corporate level IT to the small / medium business.

Software as a Service (SaaS)

The traditional method of purchasing and using software is starting to become a thing of the past for many organisations. Upfront purchasing of applications followed by lengthy and time consuming install and test procedures is simply an acceptable way of operating for more and more businesses. The SaaS approach is a pay as you go approach to software usage. Instead of buying software up front, ThinHost customers can turn applications on or off as they need to on a per person / per month basis saving considerable time, making budgeting far easier, and often bringing overall costs down dramatically.

Our Data Centres

The ThinHost mainframe systems are housed in ultra-resilient data centres which include multiple levels of 24/7 security, stable high-capacity power supplies, fire protection, environmental controls and 24 hour guard manned security. Additionally, all data is backed up to a 3rd party disaster recovery firm independent to ThinHost.

The data centres have been engineered to avoid any single point of failure in connectivity, power, or HVAC and boast, Very Early Smoke Detection Apparatus (VESDA), State-of-the-art fire suppression systems, CCTV throughout, 24 hour video recording, sophisticated alarm systems, PAC security card access system, leak detection, UPS conditioned clean power, diverse mains power supplies with diesel generator backup.
