Security
Information security is of paramount importance for our
customers. From the physical security of our hosting facilities, to
the encryption methods used to access our system, to the virus
filtering systems we have deployed, to the firewall architecture we
manage, to the online backup facility we use – ThinHost is the most
secure place to store your companies life blood – its
information.
ThinHost Connection
Traffic
When you connect to your ThinHost session the data traffic is
secured using “Secure Sockets Layer” or “SSL” encryption. This is a
Federal Information Processing Standard 140-1 encryption method and
is the same technology used for most Internet banking.
Data Protection
ThinHost adheres to all legislative and regulatory requirements
with respect to the storage of client data and the protection of
clients’ privacy. ThinHost collects, stores and uses data in
accordance with the Data Protection Act 1998 and the ThinHost
Security Policy. ThinHost is registered as a data controller with
the Information Commissioner's Office (reg: Z9126331).
Internet / Firewall
Security
A firewall is a buffer that isolates our network from the Internet.
We operate industry leading Watchguard Firewall technology to
protect our infrastructure from external threats. Firewall logs are
monitored to ensure no one has attempted to compromise firewall
security.
Virus and Spyware Control
ThinHost utilises three anti-virus applications and seven spam
filters running independently to provide multiple levels of
protection and a 100% guarantee of zero infection from known virus
threats.
Protection to new outbreaks – the “Zero Hour”
Protection from Denial of Service Attack (DOS) and Directory
Harvest Attack (DHA)
Protection of company reputation with outbound virus
filters
Over 98% spam blocked
False positive rate better than 1 in 300,000
Password Policy
Passwords are an important aspect of computer security. They are
the front line of protection for user accounts. The purpose of our
password policy is to establish a standard for creation of strong
passwords, the protection of those passwords, and their frequency
of change.
We also offer the option to upgrade to 2-factor authentication
using CRYPTOCard award-winning authentication technology.
Physical Security
The ThinHost mainframe systems are housed in ultra-resilient data
centres which include 24 hour guard manned security, 24 hour video
recording, sophisticated alarm systems, and a PAC security card
access system.
Data Backup
A backup of ThinHost data is undertaken on a daily basis by a third
party company. These backups include all user data, shared
corporate data, emails, databases and all other client data managed
within ThinHost. All data is stored offsite in a 448-bit encrypted
format and transmitted at 448-bit encryption.
